Become a member of the CGLQ

In brief: The CGLQ offers three membership categories – regular, ally and honorary – allowing any person or organization to contribute to the defence of LGBT rights in Quebec. Membership is open to all, regardless of sexual orientation. Becoming a member means joining a committed network and actively supporting the fight for equality.

The three membership categories

The CGLQ has established three membership categories to allow the greatest number of persons and organizations to participate in its mission. Each category meets different realities and levels of commitment.

Regular member

Regular membership is for LGBT individuals and organizations who wish to actively participate in the CGLQ’s mission. Regular members are at the heart of the Coalition and have voting rights at general assemblies.

  • Open to individuals and LGBT organizations
  • Voting rights at general assemblies
  • Eligibility for the board of directors
  • Participation in all CGLQ committees and activities

Ally member

Ally membership is for persons and organizations who, while not directly from LGBT communities, wish to support the CGLQ’s mission and contribute to the fight for equality. Allies play an essential role in raising awareness among the general population.

  • Open to any sympathizing person or organization
  • Access to CGLQ events and activities
  • Receipt of Coalition communications and publications
  • Opportunity to participate in working committees

Honorary member

Honorary membership is awarded by the CGLQ’s board of directors to persons or organizations that have made an exceptional contribution to the advancement of LGBT rights in Quebec or internationally.

  • Awarded by the board of directors
  • Recognition of exceptional contributions to the LGBT cause
  • Symbolic honorary status
  • Special invitation to CGLQ events

In 2026, joining the CGLQ is particularly important. Here is why your commitment matters more than ever:

  • Persistent challenges – Despite legislative advances, discrimination and homophobia continue to affect the daily lives of many LGBT persons in Quebec, particularly in the regions.
  • New issues – The rights of transgender and non-binary persons, cyberbullying and the mental health of LGBT youth are matters requiring sustained action.
  • Strength in numbers – A solid membership base strengthens the CGLQ’s legitimacy with governments, institutions and international organizations like the UN.
  • Collective solidarity – Each membership sends a strong signal in favour of equality and contributes to building a more just and inclusive society.

Whether you are an LGBT person, an ally, an organization or a business, your membership makes a concrete difference. Join the CGLQ and actively participate in building a Quebec where every person is treated with dignity and respect.
